Vestavia Lacrosse Fall 2023 New Player Clinic

Vestavia Lacrosse is pleased to offer our free new player clinic again this year!

Who? New players – Boys & Girls – Grades 1-8

What? The basic concept is to work a few skills at the beginning and then do more teaching through scrimmage / small sided play. We will not have fixed “teams” so please come to any or all sessions and we will divide players up each week based on who is attending.

You can buy a stick or borrow a stick from a friend. If you don’t have access to one at all just let us know (in the registration form) and we can bring one for you to borrow. We will use soft lacrosse balls or tennis balls so no other equipment is needed. Just a stick and water.

When? 4 Sunday afternoons at 2p. September 24th, October 1st, 15th, 22nd (note that we are skipping Fall Break on October 8th). Clinics will go 75-90 minutes.

Where? Sicard Hollow Athletic Complex (SHAC)

How? There are 3 steps to participate:

Sign your player up for a US Lacrosse membership ($30)
USA Lacrosse
Click “Join” in the top right and follow the instructions.
Make note of your player’s US Lacrosse membership #, you will enter it in the next step.
This membership is good for 12 months and will be required for spring lacrosse so you will be ahead of the game!

Vestavia Lacrosse Fall 2023 Experienced Player Clinic

Homewood Lacrosse and Vestavia Lacrosse are partnering to provide a Sunday lacrosse program for our experienced players.

Who? Players with at least 1 season of experience – Boys & Girls – Grades 1-8. Players will be grouped by grade (2-4, 5-6, 7-8) but specific groups may be adjusted based on registration #’s to maximize time on the field.

What? Each session will start with a short warm up and then shift quickly into a game. The program is designed to accomplish 4 goals:

Build Stick Skills – all players will use short sticks (no long sticks at any level) and games will be on a short field with 4-6 field players based on registration #’s. This will help to improve the stick handling of all players regardless of spring position.
Build Lacrosse IQ – all players will run the field and play offense and defense. It will challenge each player to learn how to play on both ends of the field regardless of spring position. Rapid restarts from the goal will also build clearing and riding skills in the goalies and field players.
Meet a New Friend – Homewood and Vestavia players will be mixed. One of the best parts of summer teams and camps is meeting new friends from other communities.
Have Fun – teams will be divided up each week by the coaches to create balance and opportunity for all players. Players may be moved during the games for the sake of balance if needed. Players develop more when they are having fun and that is the purpose of the program – teach while we play and have a good time!

Players need full equipment.

Boys – helmet, shoulder and elbow pads, gloves, cup, mouthpiece, short stick, and water.
Girls – goggles, mouthpiece, stick, water.

When? 5 Sunday afternoons. 1 hour sessions starting at 1p, 2:15p, and 3:30p. September 24th, October 1st, 15th, 22nd, 29th (note that we are skipping Fall Break on October 8th). Specific time slots will be assigned based on registration #’s.

Where? West Homewood Athletic Complex (WHAC) – 123 W Oxmoor Road (35209 )

How? There are 3 steps to participate:

Make sure your player’s US Lacrosse membership is renewed through 2024
USA Lacrosse
Memberships usually expire in October of each year.
The renewed membership is required for and will be good through spring lacrosse so you will be ahead of the game!
Make note of your player’s US Lacrosse membership #, you will enter it in the next step.
